We all have been offended, wronged, or mistreated at some time or another in life? Right...
So now what are we suppose to do?
As Christians we are suppose to respond with forgiveness. Ephesians 4:32 says, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Also in, Colossians 3:13 it says, “Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” The key in both Scriptures is that we are commanded to forgive others as God has forgiven us.
We forgive because we have been forgiven! Those who are not Christians, however, have not yet experienced forgiveness by God and have neither the power or often desire to forgive others. Why should I forgive someone who done me wrong? Encouraging Books can help you with relationships and other practical areas of life such as forgiveness and many other topics.
The Bible teaches us that we are to forgive, without condition, those who sin against us. When we refuse to forgive a person it demonstrates bitterness, resentment, and anger, which are not the traits of a true Christian. It says in (Matthew 6:12).the Lord's Prayer, we ask God to forgive us our sins, just as we forgive those who sin against us. If we are not forgiving towards others, there needs to be a real revival in our hearts before another day goes by!
Jesus said in Matthew 6:14-15, “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” There is a popular expression that say, what goes around, come around. Matthew 6:14-15 could fit that pretty good.
Whenever we do not do what God commands us, we sin against Him. Whenever we wrong another person, it is not only sinning against that person, but also against God.
We all have sinned against God so much more than any person can sin against us. If God forgives us of so much, how in the world can we refuse to forgive others of so little? In Matthew 18:23-35 which is a powerful illustration of this truth. God gives us his word that when we come to Him asking for forgiveness, He freely gives it to us (1 John 1:9). The forgiveness we extend should know no limits, in the same way that God's forgiveness is limitless (Luke 17:3-4).
